For the past 17 years (ever since our first child was born) we’ve enjoyed putting Christmas gifts on layaway in Sept (early Oct). We make a great time of it – we go shopping, load up the cart – and put it all away – knowing it is safely stored, and it will appear under the tree on Christmas morning. Then we all go out for a lovely dinner and enjoy the beginning of our holiday season (including Halloween). There were some difficult years, when this little day out was just what we needed to get through. It will always be something we will remember as one of our family traditions. Walmart has discontinued it’s layaway program. We could seek out another store with layaway – and maybe we will – but I think today was our last "layaway – early Christmas Day".
As for favorite restaurants – gotta go with Olive Garden. It’s the one place we all agree on. They are running their "never ending pasta bowl" right now – it’s just too good to pass up!

Blog Challenge: I’m at a magazine stand – what 3 mags would I buy?
This is easier than you think. I already have subscriptions to 20 magazines – so I wouldn’t buy them. BUT, at this time of year – I’m absolutely addicted to the Holiday Issues of all of the craft magazines and the holiday home decor ones, too. Designs in Machine Embroidery, Create and Decorate, BH&G puts out a few every year, too.

BLog Challenge:
I do have numerous passions in my life. Things that I am passionate about – the welfare of my children, maintaining hearth and home, and my company – Paper Designs By Barbara.
The thing is, though, that oftentimes, those things we care about conflict, and priorities have to be set and met. I’ve set my priorities years ago, and have stuck to them – but the reason my little business means so much to me – isn’t for the sake of business – but for the sake of having something in this world that is mine – that I created, that I nurtured and worked for – that I can say "I did this". I have no questions as to my priorities, and those who know me know I’m set in stone here. But after the welfare of the children have been assured, and the house is well maintained – I want a chance to carve out a little something for me that says "I was here". KWIM?

My mom did it again!! She made me the coolest rack for my punches! It is made of the same wood and trim as the pen rack – so it’ll make a great addition to the art studio – if/when the builder comes out!!

I cannot begin to tell you how many things I’m in the middle of. It’s the middle of the week for the gallery showcase I’m in. I’m in the middle of trying to get my business off the ground. I’m in the middle of some business negotiations. I’m in the middle of nurturing friendships, being a wife (going on 20 years), and raising 2 children. But you know what - I LOVE BEING IN THE MIDDLE OF IT ALL!
As soon as I get my morning started here – I’m going to take some pictures of the punches rack my mom built for me. It matches the pen rack – except that it’s 6′ tall! It’s 13" x 13" - designed for paper – with 22 shelves – but I have some paper storage and I needed somewhere to put my punches in easy reach. It’ll get posted in a few – and I’ll put the link here,
Have a great day!

I’m sitting here on pins and needles. My work is being featured in a private Showcase, and some BIG names are coming to look. I feel like a ballplayer – knowing a pro scout is coming to my next game. I would LOVE to work for these companies, but hadn’t the opportunity to show them my resume before. So, now I wait…. pins and needles….
Blog challenge: What I admire most when meeting someone new is – how pulled together they are. I can’t help but notice, when I meet someone, that they look like they have it all going on. As if they would never be a candidate for "What Not to Wear"!

I just posted a pic of the great pen rack my mom built me. I’m so happy – it really fills the need!

Blog challenge: I think I like pumpkin spice scented anything in the fall. I replace all the candles and air fresheners – and just let my house smell like fall!

My friends mean the world to me. They allow me to call them when I need to talk, they share my joys and excitement – even if paper art isn’t their thing!, and they always want to be there for any sadness. They are strong, independent women, and we support and share, through thick and thin! My friends – I love you all!

I have something really big coming up this week. I’m crossing my fingers (and toes, and my eyes!!!) I’ve been very busy – hard at work – getting ready for it – so I hope it works out.
I haven’t forgotten the new articles – they are still being written – the art for them is a little more involved than the writing part. And a little time consuming – and time isn’t something I have a lot of this week – but soon!
I, also, have some big announcements to make real soon – I’ve designed something that is going into production – as soon as it hits the market – I’ll post it here first! I’m so excited – imagine seeing something I did in a store – too fun!

When I first started PaperDesignsByBarbara.com I had always thought that I would change out the material monthly. Not the big articles, but the backdrop and the photos and the Featured Projects. Well, with all of the time needed to get it set up, summer ran a little long. But it is finally set up for Fall, and I am so happy! Now, I think, for the most part, I’m caught up to the maintenance aspect and can change it out monthly. So there will be a new featured project on the home page, with the project directions, every month. Halloween will be the next one! I’m looking forward to getting to the "fun" stuff more than the "nuts and bolts" of running a site.
