Winter Holiday Cards Contest

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:53 pm by PaperDesigns

Well, the first contest was so great – we’re having another one! Starting tonight at Midnight (December 1, 2006) were opening up our Winter Holiday Cards Contest!!

The rules and guidelines are mostly the same – but please check them out. We’ve changed the topic for the new short paragraph. We’d love a response to “Why Do We Honor the Tradition of Sending Winter Holiday Cards”. There’s a lot of room for thought in that question. I know what I’m going to write for my sample entry.

For Us – There’s ONE favorite Christmas Movie!

Mice Couple (2) Christmas Critters, PC Hugware

We love Christmas. With all of DHs deployments, we decided early on that Christmas would always be just the four of us. We don’t mean any disrespect to any of our family and friends (and they all understand) we just like to hang out – the four of us – for the holidays.

We love to watch Christmas Movies, and we watch them all (Thank our lucky stars for the Family Channel and the Hallmark Movie Channel!) We’ll watch new ones old ones, it doesn’t matter – we love watching others find the joy that is the holiday spirit!

But our all-time favorite, bar none, is the Muppets Christmas Carol. We just love it! We know all the lines “Thank you for making me a part of this!” “Even the vegetables don’t like him” and we laugh and cry (okay, only I cry when Scrooge is remembering his lost love) every time! So it is OUR movie.

Organizing the Holidays

The blog challenge is on daily planning and writing things down – and I have to say, that I don’t but should!!  I would be so much better organized and much less stressed out if I would only do this!  I even have a daily planner!  Especially with the holidays upon us, the parties, the shopping, and the commitments, I really need to get a handle on time management!!  I’ll make that my own challenge – write the stuff down, make lists and get the missions accomplished!  I hate how I feel when I ‘drop balls’ – I really don’t want to let anyone down.  I’ll start organizing – I promise!

It’s time to let the kids do something!

Gift Grouping Christmas Traditions, Kaelynn Winn

My husband and I go nuts, overboard, etc all throughout the holiday season. We have a lot of fun, but wrapping the gifts for family and friends is the job that belongs to the kids. When the grandparents receive gifts that were obviously wrapped with love from the children – they tell us that it meant all the more! Our children work together as a team to get all the supplies together and wrap the gifts as best they can. They fill out the tags, and help us get the presents in the boxes for mailing. It’s fun, and the kids really enjoy have a “job” that’s all theirs!

The Start Of the Holiday Season!

Thanksgiving is over, Black Friday was accomplished – and today Christmas went up! This is the busiest week on my year. We go to friends for Thursday, but I did get up around 5:30 and sneak off to Walmart to get the papers (6 different ones) and heavy whipping cream. Then after making bread and getting all the food I was bringing ready – we left around 11am. Had a great time, came home around 10:30pm – asleep by 11:30pm – up at 3am for Black Friday. At our first “hit” (store) by 4:20am, by the time we got home (3pm) we had made over 20 BF sales, and had an SUV load of goodies. We love all the planning and shopping, and we don’t even mind the sleepless adventure – but we’re not spring chickens, so I do wonder if we can keep doing this year after year. And to get up early this morning and get all of Christmas put – now that is a lot of work! But worth it, it’s all worth it!

Blog challenge: I make all my own Christmas cards and envelopes, and I will put in a ‘family letter’ about the past year. I feel very strongly about the people on my Christmas Card list, and if we are so far apart and this may be my only contact with them, I want it to be special.

Don’t Forget: Only a couple more days to enter your Fall Holiday Cards in the contest. Please get those pictures posted! There are cash prizes!

Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving! What a wonderful holiday! Family, Friends, Food, and Football! All of my favorite things! The blog challenge was about what Thanksgiving food can I just not wait to taste again. Boy, the list is long. My husband and I often ask ourselves why we only have turkey on Thanksgiving – especially when we love it, it’s inexpensive, we really enjoy cooking it, and left overs are the greatest thing! But we don’t tend to… so I am really looking forward to a great turkey! I also love sweet potatoes cooked with apples, pecans, and maple brown sugar! YUMMM! Many of the items on the menu are things I love, but also have year round – so these are the favorites.

If you didn’t know, Green Sneakers is hosting a Fall Holidays Cards Contest – it closes on the 29th – so there’s still time to enter, and so far there are more prizes than contestants! (And we’re talking cash prizes!) So feel free to put your cards in! There’s a link for it under my Blogroll!

A Blog Challenge about Me

Posted in Paper Crafts at 5:31 pm by PaperDesigns

Card03 FrontTea Party, Carol Halm

Here’s the challenge:

1- your worst habit?
2- your best feature?
3- what you like most about your significant other/spouse?
4- if you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
5- what do you admire most in a dear friend you have?

Here’s my reply:

1. I talk too fast (too much?)

2. I’ll go an extra mile (or an extra thousand miles) for a good friend.

3. HoneyBear – there’s too much to list, he reaches for my hand in his sleep.

4. Scotland.

5. I have a friend who has been beaten up by life, and she still is the most unassuming, unjaded person I know.

Holiday Sparkle or Traditional Mistletoe? Blog Challenge

This is an easy one for me – I’m Traditional Mistletoe and my husband is Holiday Sparkle (ala Clark Griswold)!  After 20 Christmases together, we have come to a happy arrangement – I do the inside of the house, and he can use the whole outside for his luminary arts!  Now the inside will (today) be completely renovated into Christmas – pictures come down, all the couch throws and pillows will get changed out – and then Christmas goes up.  10 trees, wall hanging, swags, throws, pillows, bedding, and my favorite – the village!  It’ll easily take me a few days working straight through – but I love it, I really do! The outside has already gone up.  He likes to plan it in waves.  The first wave is up, and each week he’ll add more.

Window Shopping

Posted in Paper Crafts at 5:43 pm by PaperDesigns

 Card 04 Front.jpg

I do love to go window shopping.  There’s so little I need/have room for – but it is fun to look.  The only thing this year that really caught my eye was a Tablet PC.  I do not need a laptop, and the idea of spending that much money on something I don’t need is ridiculous.  BUT, it is really cool, and the technology of it just blows me away.  I love working with computers and their peripherals (funny, because I’m not much of a digi scrapper) but I love the cool new gadgets.  This one really made me look twice!

I think the one “window shopping” item I’ll have to actually get – some frothy gorgeous evening gown!  I’ve got a formal event to go to  in a couple of weeks – so I’d better get out there and start Window Shopping!!
